Un livre d'Anne Trotereau et Philippe Dumas.
Il était une fois... trois frères, deux aînés fiers et le benjamin, méconsidéré. En chemin pour des aventures palpitantes, le jeune frère protège de ses ainés une fourmilière, un couple de canard et un essaim d'abeilles. Au soir, les trois frères arrivèrent au pied d'un étrange château oublié, inhabité. Quand surgit un vieil homme, muet, qui leur offre le couvert et les mène à leurs chambres pour la nuit. Mais au matin, trois épreuves les attendent... En cas d'échec, la malédiction continuera et eux aussi seront changés en pierre.
Philippe Dumas, par ses illustrations, actualise le conte des frères Grimm et souligne son intemporalité, en le faisant incarner par des enfants qui s'amusent dans un jardin.
Il est originellement paru en 1984, chez Grasset, dans la très belle collection Monsieur Chat où Etienne Delessert invitait des artistes à réinventer les contes classiques.
